Red Wing Gallery, located at 8b Main Street, in Tarrytown, NY will be featuring the work of well known Massachusetts artist Danny O'Conner (aka Danny O) in a show entitled, Red Wing on Red Wing. The show will feature 24 post card sized collages of carefully selected Red Wing vases, each filled with a different flower. The collages are framed in a hand-made picture boxes made of found rusticated wood, yielding a home spun yet refined effect. All of the work in the show was created exclusively for this engagement and when hung will offer the viewer a virtual emersion in art pottery when the 24 images in the show are surrounded by the 300 actual pieces in the gallery.

Danny O uses his spontaneous and inventive approach to collage to create whole images scissored from hundreds of recycled contemporary magazines, pasted on cut sections of vintage album covers. The result is a series of images which are at once colorful, imaginative, and arresting. The idea to create a whole new body of work that tied in directly to the Red Wing pottery collection at the shop occurred to Danny O immediately upon entering the shop for the first time a few months ago. "It just seemed like a natural compliment to this fantastic pottery collection made up one company's wares" says O'Conner, 34. "In the same way that I ammass a collection of vibrabtly colored images to make one new image, the collection too is made up of hundreds of hues that have been brought together to create a larger cohesive whole."

Danny O's art is found in the homes of elite art collectors around the globe. It's been auctioned at Christie's, shown in museums, featured on television, and installed at tourist destinations throughout the nation. His illustrations have appeared in the Boston Globe, as well as national magazines, and he has created artwork for game boards, book jackets, and CD covers. A painting of his was even featured on the opening sequence of the Mad About You hit television show.

Best known for a recent body of work entitled Greatest Hits from Boston to the Berkshires, featuring images of prominent buildings from towns and cities in Massachusetts, created in his signature style of taking scraps of old magazines, newspaper, and scotch tape using old record albums as the canvas (Visit his web site at www.dannoart.com). "I never buy any paint because I can get such vibrant colors using magazines and glue. Says the artist "I love taking a picture of a shoe and turning it into a nose that fits so perfectly that it looks photographic from 10 feet away." Like all of Danny's work, the images in this current show are vibrant and affecting, offering a bold and contemporary perspective on everyday objects. "Danny's art is spontaneous and vibrant, and it always has tremendous mass appeal," said Alison Benjamin, Project Director at Boxcar Media, the firm currently representing the artist.

An opening night party is scheduled for Friday, August 9th, from 5-8 pm. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served. The show runs through September 10th. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Wednesday: 11-5, Thursday and Friday: 11-8, Saturday: 11-7 and Sunday: 12-5.
